- Story Text: Hundreds of Orthodox Christians pilgrims marched along the Via
Dolorosa in the old city of Jerusalem to mark Easter Good Friday (April
21).
Local Palestinian Christian Orthodox, Armenian and Assyrian along with
pilgrims, nuns and monks carried wooden crosses and sang hymns as they walked
the alleys of Jerusalem's old city to the Church of the Holy Sepulchre,
revered as the site where Jesus was crucified and buried.
The Via Dolorosa contains fourteen stations in which tradition claims
that Jesus was condemned to death, beaten, saw his mother, all the way to the
last station where it is believed he was placed in a tomb at the Holy
Sepulchre.
Good Friday comes two days before Easter Sunday and marks the day Jesus
turned himself in to be crucified on the cross, according to tradition, and
rose from the dead on Easter Sunday, the cornerstone of the Christian
faith. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
