- Story Text: Hong Kong Police brought a woman suspected of abusing her Indonesian maids back to her apartment to collect evidence as the investigation into the case that sparked outrage in the city continued on Tuesday (January 21).
The housewife surnamed Law, 44, was arrested at the airport on Monday (January 20) when she tried to leave for Thailand.
Law, in a black hood, was swarmed by reporters on Tuesday (January 21) as police escorted her into the building, where they stayed for about 40 minutes.
A 23-year-old maid, Erwiana Sulistyaningsih, reportedly had been badly beaten by her employer and is recovering at a hospital in Sragen, a city in central Java, after flying out from Hong Kong in early January.
A second maid, identified only as Susi, who claimed to have been abused by the same employer, also gave a statement to police, saying she had frequently been beaten and abused.
Law was arrested for assault. No formal charges have been laid against her as of Tuesday (January 21) afternoon. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
