Barroso together with the EU's enlargement official Olli Rehn met with Ivo Miro Jovic, chairman of the presidency, Sulejman Tihic and Borislav Paravac.
After the meeting with members of Bosnian government Barroso and Bosnian Prime Minister Adnan Terzic held a joint news conference.
"On behalf of the Bosnian government I confirm our commitment to use the positive views from Brussels and to finish Stabilisation and Association agreement," said Adnan Terzic.
Barroso in turn stated that it would be the best possible scenario for Bosnia and Herzegovina and added: "In that case, it means that country is able to make common decisions, that there's substantial progress in reforms, and that full cooperation with the Hague's tribunal is achieved."
Barroso's visit to the region includes Croatia and Serbia-Montenegro, Macedonia, Albania and Bosnia.
"We have also discussed with the authorities of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and now with Prime Minister, the free trade area, free trade agreement. We are determined to go ahead with this idea, and we believe that it's very important because it appears now as a substitute to the European integration, but on the contrary it's a way of promoting European path of Bosnia and Herzegovina and also other countries of the region."
This is Barroso's first official visit to the region and precedes a key March 10 assessment by EU foreign ministers of the pace of political and economic reforms there. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
