"We are willing to make joint efforts with South Korea to push ahead political and strategic mutual trust, deepen communication and cooperation in various aspects, and further develop the Sino-South Korean relations. As a close neighbour of the Korean peninsula, China has attached great importance to the development of the situation on the peninsula. We believe it is in the common interests of all the relevant parties to maintain peace and stability of the peninsula," Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying told a daily news conference.
Chinese President Hu Jintao had already sent a congratulatory message to Park, Hua added.
Beijing has urged the two Koreas to resolve their disputes through dialogue.
Park has said she will hold talks with North Korea and resume aid to the isolated country, but only if it abandons its nuclear weapons programme. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
