- Story Text: Greek Prime Minister Costas Karamanlis held talks with Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao on Thursday (January 19) at the start of a visit to Beijing and Shanghai.
The visit is Karamanlis' first official trip to China.
Greece has been increasing exports to China over the past few decades and is now looking to expand two-way trade. China exported 1.75 billion U.S. dollars worth of goods to Greece in 2004.
Karamanlis has said he hopes the talks with Chinese leaders will boost cooperation in the fields of trade, tourism, culture and education. Another key area of cooperation will be the hosting of the Olympic Games. Athens hosted the 2004 Games, while Beijing will be the 2008 host.
Karamanlis recently offered help in staging the Olympics. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
