strangling after finding him guilty of murdering and
mutilating 100 children.
The judge also said defendant Javed Iqbal and a co-accused
should be cut into pieces and thrown into acid, the same fate
as the victims.
The lower court judge in Lahore, capital of Punjab
province, sentenced Iqbal Javeed on Thursday (March 16).
Iqbal was sentenced to death by strangling after the judge
found him guilty of murdering and mutilating 100 children.
The judge said Iqbal and a co-accused should be cut into
pieces and thrown into acid, the same fate as the victims.
The lower court judge said Iqbal had been found guilty of
100 murders.
The victims were mostly street children picked up near
Iqbal's house in a Lahore slum.
"Javed Iqbal has been found of guilty of 100 murders. The
sentence is that he should be strangled 100 times at
Minar-e-Pakistan (a landmark in Lahore)," Additional District
and Sessions Judge Allah Baksh said in passing sentence.
"His body should be cut in 100 pieces and put in acid, as
he did with his victims."
Baksh also convicted Iqbal's accomplice, Sabir (one name),
of murdering and mutilating 98 children and said he also
should be strangled, cut into pieces and thrown into acid.
Leaving court locked in a police van, Iqbal said: "I knew
before that I would sentenced to death.Police provided
shelter to the real accused and culprit."
Iqbal and Sabir, who had pleaded not guilty to the charges
last month, can appeal against the sentence to a higher court.
