- Story Text: Philippines boxing legend Manny Pacquiao announced plans on Tuesday (August 26) to open a boxing school in China.
The eight-division boxing world champion made the announcement during a news conference in Shanghai with junior welterweight champion Chris Algieri, whom he plans to fight in Macau in November.
"We are going to put up a Manny Pacquiao boxing education institute here in China. We start in Beijing and after Beijing will be Shanghai and the whole (of) China. We are going to put up a boxing gym to encourage and support boxers here in China and to promote boxing and also of course I will share with them my knowledge and experience in boxing," Pacquiao said.
Pacquiao told Philippine media on Wednesday (August 27) that he is planning to open up a formal boxing school in China with the help of a Chinese company and the Chinese government. It will be named the "Manny Pacquiao Boxing Education Institute" and will be in Beijing, although when it will open has yet to be decided.
Philippine media added that he would visit the academy once every few months to supervise.
Pacquiao, a congressman in Sarangani province in the Philippines, has won 56 matches, drawn five and lost two in his career.
