- Story Text: Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao welcomed Italian Prime Minister Mario Monti in an official ceremony at the Great Hall of the People on Saturday (March 31) in Beijing.
Monti arrived in the Chinese capital on Friday (March 30) after visiting South Korea and Japan on a trip around East Asian powerhouses aimed at boosting economic ties.
State news agency Xinhua said on Friday that the visit would help to promote bilateral "exchanges and co-operation in various areas".
Xinhua said earlier that the two countries were set to boost bilateral trade to $80 billion U.S. dollars by 2015 from $51 billion U.S. dollars in 2011.
After Beijing, Monti is expected to attend the annual Boao Forum in the southern Chinese province of Hainan, Chinese state media said. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
