- Story Text: Security was heightened around the European Council on Thursday (May 25) as U.S. President Donald Trump arrived for his first meeting with EU leaders.
Trump, with his secretaries of state and defense, Rex Tillerson and James Mattis respectively, held talks with European Council President Donald Tusk, European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker and EU Foreign Policy Chief Federica Mogherini.
Trump will later attend a summit of NATO leaders and attend the inauguration of the military alliance's headquarters in the city.
U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said on Wednesday (May 24) Trump will be "really tough" when he meets his NATO allies for the first time, demanding that they raise their defence spending,
