- Story Text: French President Emmanuel Macron met with European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker in Brussels on Thursday (May 25).
The two leaders had separately met with U.S. President Donald Trump earlier in the day, ahead of a NATO summit at the military alliance's headquarters in the Belgian capital.
EU and U.S. trade delegations will meet in the coming weeks, Juncker told a news conference adding that "past divergences had been too great".
Speaking after his own working lunch with Trump, Macron told reporters he advised his U.S. counterpart not to take any hasty decision on a global climate change deal that the American president had criticised during his campaign.
Macron said that he had an "extremely direct and very frank" meeting with Trump, adding that the United States remained an essential partner for France. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
