- Story Text: Borussia Dortmund fans were celebrating on Saturday evening (May 27) after the team snapped their German Cup jinx, edging past Eintracht Frankfurt 2-1 to win the trophy after losing the three previous finals, and end their season on a high.
Some 15,000 Dortmund fans crammed into the city's Friedensplatz ('Peace Square") to watch a screening of the match, which was played in Berlin's Olympic Stadium, and looked set to continue celebrating well into the night.
In Frankurt, Eintracht fans watching on a big screen set up in the stadium were disappointed to miss out on what would have been their first German Cup win since 1988.
It was Dortmund's first Cup win since their 2012 domestic double, and also the first trophy for Coach Thomas Tuchel and for winger Marco Reus, considered among the most talented players of his generation but who had lost four finals since arriving in 2012, including the 2013 Champions League final.
Dortmund's victory also meant Freiburg, who finished seventh in the league, will compete in the Europa League qualifying rounds. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
