- Story Text:Defeated French far-right presidential candidate Marine Le Pen said on Thursday (May 18) she would run for parliament in June's legislative elections because it was crucial there were lawmakers ready to oppose Emmanuel Macron's policies.
Le Pen's defeat to Macron on May 7 had raised questions about her leadership of the National Front and aides had said over the past days she had not yet decided if she would stand for parliament in her northern fiefdom of Henin-Beaumont, where she narrowly lost in 2012.
Her chances of victory are real in the stronghold of Hénin-Beaumont, city of which Steeve Briois, vice-president of the FN, is the mayor.
In the second round of the 2017 presidential election, Marine Le Pen won 58.17% of the votes in this same constituency.
The legislative elections take place on 11 and 18 June. - Copyright Holder: POOL (CAN SELL)
