The biggest thrill for me was being able to get back into the relationship with David Lynch, the actor-director relationship which had been a number of years since we've had that going on so that for me was the thrill. And then I've got to say revisiting and seeing all the people from the previous show, you know, from the early years and catching up and enjoying you know their journeys and what we were about to start." MACLACHLAN AND LYNCH POSING FOR PHOTOS TOGETHER ON RED CARPET (SOUNDBITE) (English) ACTOR KYLE MACLACHLAN, SAYING: "I can't say much but we do drink coffee and it is damn good. And we do have cherry pie." VARIOUS OF LAURA DERN ON RED CARPET POSING FOR PHOTOGRAPHERS (SOUNDBITE) (English) LAURA DERN, SAYING: "Well I don't think nobody had seen anything like this, certainly on television. And, you know, an auteur having enough autonomy to be boundary less and absurd and hilarious and terrifying and on television had never been done in this way. So I think it just, it was a parading shift and I think that now it's so beautiful when we're in this golden era of what film makers can do on cable television like what independent filmmakers go to do in the 70s, to bring David back into this arena where he has freedom to create with such autonomy is incredible, so exciting." DERN AND LYNCH POSING FOR PHOTOS (SOUNDBITE) (English) LAURA DERN ANSWERING QUESTION ABOUT BEING DAVID LYNCH'S MUSE, SAYING: "Incredible, I feel privileged when I'm thought of that was (David Lynch's muse) and even more excited when he seems to think of me that way. I think Kyle and I both share that great good fortune." MACLACHLAN HUGGING DERN AS SHE IS INTERVIEWED ACTRESS SHERYL LEE WHO PLAYS THE CHARACTER OF LAURA PALMER ON TWIN PEAKS BEING INTERVIEWED ON CARPET (SOUNDBITE) (English) SHERYL LEE, SAYING: "The fans, it's the fans. From the very beginning they were invested, interested, passionate, just creative themselves and I really feel that it's because of them that we're still here, that it keeps going on and on." LYNCH ON RED CARPET WITH ACTRESS MADCHEN AMICK WHO PLAYED WAITRESS 'SHELLY JOHNSON' IN THE FIRST TWO SEASONS OF TWIN PEAKS (SOUNDBITE) (English) MADCHEN AMICK, SAYING: "I think David stuck himself in a bottle of formaldehyde and didn't change. David Lynch is exactly the way David Lynch was 25 years ago, he is a sweet, beautiful soul that's so honest and true and he loves everybody he works with and that hasn't changed." ACTRESS GRACE ZABRISKIE WHO PLAYED 'SARAH PALMER,' THE MOTHER OF 'LAURA PALMER' IN TWIN PEAKS SEASON ONE AND TWO (SOUNDBITE) (English) GRACE ZABRISKIE, SAYING: "I remember when it first was shown in a room with a lot of people, and that was the first time I saw it, and I remember thinking well this is it, I mean this is the end of it, we've done the pilot but we won't be doing any more because no one else will get it. There was not much humility in that judgment, it turns out a lot of people got it." ACTOR DANA ASHBROOK WHO PLAYED THE CHARACTER OF 'BOBBY BRIGGS' ON THE FIRST TWO SEASONS OF TWIN PEAKS ON RED CARPET (SOUNDBITE) (English) DANA ASHBROOK, SAYING "It's a different world out here now with all this, I mean there wasn't any of this when we did the original, you know what I mean. So I don't know, I'm excited to see what's going to happen, you know whether there will be a following again or not." TWIN PEAKS CO-CREATOR AND EXECUTIVE PRODUCER MARK FROST ON RED CARPET (SOUNDBITE) (English) TWIN PEAKS CO-CREATOR AND EXECUTIVE PRODUCER MARK FROST, SAYING: "Well we didn't set out to do anything other than satisfy ourselves as we were writing this new season. We knew it had to be in its own way as startling and different and arresting as it was the first time. This was not an exercise in nostalgia, this was an attempt to move the ball forward both narratively and cinematically and that's why David wanted to direct all of it. I think this will, we hope, raise the bar from where ever it was set before and the audience will be the ones to tell us if we succeed in that." - Story Text: Legendary Director David Lynch was out in Los Angeles on Friday night (May 19) for the premiere of 'Twin Peaks' which reboots Sunday on premium cable network Showtime after 26 years.
The ground-breaking show, which first hit the airwaves in 1990, is set in the fictional town of "Twin Peaks" in Washington state where strange things happen following the murder of a homecoming queen.
Those involved with the show have closely guarded details of the new season and at the premiere on Friday none of the cast were allowed to reveal any details about their characters or plot lines.
But many of the old cast members are making a return, including Kyle MacLachlan who plays FBI Special Agent Dale Cooper.
"Well he's my favorite character ever so that was real pleasure, fortunately I fit the suite which is very good," joked MacLachlan on the red carpet in downtown Los Angeles.
"The biggest thrill for me was being able to get back into the relationship with David Lynch, the actor-director relationship which had been a number of years since we've had that going on so that for me was the thrill," he added.
Lynch regular Laura Dern also features on the new Twin Peaks season.
"Well I don't think nobody had seen anything like this, certainly on television. And, you know, an auteur having enough autonomy to be boundary less and absurd and hilarious and terrifying and on television had never been done in this way. So I think it just, it was a parading shift," said Dern, who worked with Lynch on 'Inland Empire' and 'Wild at Heart.'
'Twin Peaks' Co-creator and Executive Producer Mark Frost said the new show was not 'an exercise in nostalgia."
"Well we didn't set out to do anything other than satisfy ourselves as we were writing this new season. We knew it had to be in its own way as startling and different and arresting as it was the first time. This was not an exercise in nostalgia, this was an attempt to move the ball forward both narratively and cinematically and that's why David wanted to direct all of it. I think this will, we hope, raise the bar from where ever it was set before and the audience will be the ones to tell us if we succeed in that," he said.
