- Story Text: The arrival of U.S. President Donald Trump in Rome on Tuesday (May 23) certainly did not go unnoticed.
Heavy security on the streets has left much of the Italian capital a no-go area for cars and pedestrians alike. The 50-car convoy carrying Trump, his wife Melania, daughter Ivanka and her husband Jared Kushner seemed to take forever to enter the American ambassador's residence at Villa Taverna where the President will overnight.
Local media reported on Tuesday that the president's security forces have four routes up-their-sleeve to take Trump to the Vatican on Wednesday (May 24) for his meeting with Pope Francis. The one that will actually be used is to be decided only at the last minute.
As well as the pope, Trump is due to meet President Sergio Mattarella and Prime Minister Paolo Gentiloni during his stay in Rome. He will see Gentiloni again on Friday (May 26) for a summit in Sicily of the Group of Seven (G7) richest nations. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
