French President Emmanuel Macron set out on foot from the Elysee Palace on Tuesday (May 23) accompanied by three of his ministers, including Prime Minister Edouard Philippe and Foreign and European Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian, to pay his respects to the Manchester attack victims at the British Embassy, just a few steps away from the presidential residence.
Macron signed the golden book with a message of "unity" and "unwavering" support to Britain, words he repeated during his speech after meeting with British Ambassador to France Edward Llewellyn.
An unidentified suicide bomber is suspected of carrying out the deadly attack which left 22 people dead at the Manchester Arena. Islamic State has since claimed responsibility.
Macron said France would continue to reinforce cooperation with European partners in the fight against terrorism.
More than 230 people have died in France in the past two years at the hands of attackers allied to the militant group Islamic State, whose strongholds in Syria and Iraq are being bombed by an international coalition including France. - Copyright Holder: POOL (CAN SELL)
