South Korean President Moon Jae-in held a meeting with special envoys on Wednesday (May 24) after their return from the United States, China and Japan earlier this month.
The envoys including former ambassador to the U.S., Hong Seok-hyun, former prime minister Lee Hae-chan, and a veteran Democratic Party lawmaker Moon Hee-sang, attended the meeting.
President Moon said he believed the envoys fully explained South Korea's views on the THAAD and the South Korea-Japan Comfort Women Agreement to the concerned leaders.
China has strongly opposed the U.S. Terminal High Altitude Area Defence (THAAD) anti-missile system deployed in South Korea to counter the threat from North Korea, saying it can spy into its territory, and South Korean companies have been hit in China by a nationalist backlash over the deployment. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
