- Story Text: A missile fired by North Korea on Sunday (May 14) morning may have reached an altitude of more than 2,000 kilometers (1,245 miles) and could be a new type of a missile, Japan's Defense Minister Tomomi Inada told reporters.
Japan said the missile is estimated to have fallen in the Sea of Japan about 400 kilometers (250 miles) from the east coast of North Korea but did not land in territorial waters.
South Korea's military said earlier that North Korean had fired an unidentified projectile from a region near its west coast.
Japanese immediately lodged a strong protest, calling the missiles a threat to the nation. - Copyright Holder: FILE REUTERS (CAN SELL)
