- Story Text: Thousands of Manchester United fans were defiant after the deadly attack on the city as they gathered to watch their soccer team face Ajax in the Europa League final on Wednesday (May 24).
There was solidarity, camaraderie and plenty of flying beer as the supporters gathered in a makeshift fan zone in a warehouse near the Old Trafford in Manchester to watch the match taking place in Stockholm.
A minute of silence, held just before the starting whistle, saw the rowdy crowd honour the victims of the Manchester Arena suicide bombing.
Football and city pride was the unifying force for a city in shock at the targeting of youngsters attending a pop concert.
“The travesty that’s happened over the past few days has seen the community and everyone pull together and hopefully United will win to bring everyone together even more,†said one man. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
