- Story Text: An Afghan security guard was buried on Thursday (June 1) a day after he was killed by a truck bomb which exploded during the morning rush hour in the capital Kabul killing at least 80 people.
Zamari Khan, along with two policemen, stopped a sewage tanker as it tried to enter a road near the Roshan telecom office in Kabul's unofficial Green Zone on Wednesday (May 31) which houses various foreign embassies.
Khan's brother quoted eyewitnesses who described when and how Zamari and the two policemen were killed.
The blast occurred at the start of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, ripping through a traffic-clogged street packed with people on their way to school or work during the morning rush hour, causing hundreds of casualties in an instant and sending a tower of black smoke into the sky.
In scale, it was one of the worst such attacks since the U.S.-led campaign to oust the Taliban in 2001 but was only the latest in a grim series of bombings that has killed thousands in recent years. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
