- Story Text: French President Emmanuel Macron categorically ruled out any renegotiation of the Paris climate accords on Thursday (June 1) and said U.S. President Donald Trump's decision to withdraw would harm American interests and citizens.
Macron, who made a televised address in French and English, said Trump had made "a mistake with regard to the interests of his country and his people and an error for the future of our planet."
"I'm telling you firmly this evening: under no circumstances will we renegotiate a less ambitious agreement," said Macron, who took office less than a month ago.
"Do not be mistaken: as far as the climate is concerned, there is no plan B because there is no planet B."
And, echoing Trump's election campaign slogan 'Make America great again' Macron said: "Wherever we live, whoever we are, we all share the same responsibility: make our planet great again." - Copyright Holder: FILE REUTERS (CAN SELL)
