- Story Text: Families gathered at several funeral parlours in Manila on Friday (June 2) to claim the victims of a resort hotel attack killing at least 36 people.
Magdalena Ramos, a survivor who lost three of her friends in the attack, said she heard numerous gunshots when they escaped and could not fathom that it was done by a single person. Lourdes Uy, whose daughter-in-law Jorgie died while working in the second floor of the hotel's casino, blamed the hotel and the gunman for the deaths.
A gunman, who later killed himself, burst into a casino in the Philippine capital Manila early on Friday, firing shots, setting gaming tables alight in what officials believe was a botched robbery.
There was no evidence linking the attack at the Resorts World Manila entertainment complex to fighting between government troops and Islamist militants in the country's south, said Ernesto Abella, a spokesman for President Rodrigo Duterte. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
