We only make, we only do that if we are going to work with China, Chinese provinces to get the job done." CAMERAMAN FILMING (SOUNDBITE) (English) CALIFORNIA GOVERNOR JERRY BROWN SAYING: "In my own country, there're many sceptics who say 'don't do anything, green is a hoax, green is bad', that's absolutely what people say. Well, in California, we don't agree. We are taking very strong steps to protect the environment. Our environmental regulation is the strongest of any state in the United States of America. We are the most aggressive and I think also the most thoughtful." CAMERAMAN FILMING (SOUNDBITE) (English) CALIFORNIA GOVERNOR JERRY BROWN SAYING: "In the last 12 months, 24 percent of the wealth of America was created in California -- California with the strictest environmental rules and which our critics say are too strict. How can that be when we are growing so much faster than those other states that have virtually no environmental regulations? So green is gold. Green is the right path environmentally, it is the right path politically and is the right path economically." - Story Text:California Governor Jerry Brown vowed on Monday (June 5) that his state will work with China and abide by the Paris climate accord, at the International Summit of New Environmental Protection Technology 2017 in eastern Jiangsu province.
After the summit, Brown met with Provincial Party Secretary Li Qiang, to sign a clean technology agreement.
Brown vigourously opposed the United States' withdrawal from the pact and called U.S. President Donald Trump's decision to pull out of the Paris agreement as "insane." He also said that he would discuss merging carbon trading markets in his state with China during his Asia trip.
Brown will meet regional and national officials over the course of his week-long trip to China and will host a clean energy forum in Beijing. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
