MICHELLE ZUCKERMAN
11.53.25 ...had to institute quite stringentì
emergency procedures i.o.t. get to this level ofì
so-called coping or crisis intervention...3/4ì
nursing strike...
11.53.42 ...we have 4 general wards of this size &ì
what we have done is discharched at least 100 outì
of 160 patients who were in hospital yesterday.ì
These patients were all ill enough to be inì
hospital but not critically ill and we have takenì
the chance & the risk of sending them home as weì
thought that they would get as good if not betterì
care from their mothers at home. We have nowì
combined 4 paediatric wards into 1 ward. We haveì
pooled all our resources ranging from a fewì
student nurses who are largely untrained to armyì
personnel who are now available to help us and toì
voluntary workers, students and cleaners...
11.55.42 ...the problem being that at these timesì
of strikes crisis intervention occurs & the realì
issues don't ever seem to be addressed by theì
health authorities...
11.56.19 DR MELANIE ...we'll hold the ford...butì
we also would like to appeal to the authorities toì
listen to the nurses and at least give them aì
chance...
