00.53.39 MANDELA SPEECH
00.54.44 WIDE SIDE ANGLE MANDELA TELLING STORY
00.57.37 RE PEOPLE CONCERNED ABOUT HIGH LEVEL OFì
CRIME - LABOUR UNREST
00.59.17 ...and almost in every house the questionì
of crime & strikes in the country was raised...
00.59.27 ...when crime is high & there is labourì
unrest every day, that projects a wrong image ofì
our country...
01.00.41 ...they say the ANC is soft on crime.ì
What they don't tell you is what we inherited...
01.03.08 ...taking home about R500,00...in thatì
situation it is easy to corrupt the police...
01.03.24 WIDE ESTABLISH MANDELA
01.04.02 ...that is the system that we'veì
inherited. Can you expect the crime to beì
otherwise under those conditions?
01.05.27 ...within the 15 months we've been inì
power we've done far more - we've done thingsì
which the NP never did for more than 4 decades...
01.05.48 ...laat ons die verlede vergeet. Bygonesì
are bygones...
01.07.06 RE LABOUR UNREST ...we have the nurses
now throughout the country demonstrating &ì
striking and patients especially babies dying. We
must not be cross because our nurses have got
genuine difficulty. The conditions under which
they are working are absolutely scandelous and they require support & sympathy from all of us. There are aspects very serious aspects to which we want to draw their attention but nevertheless we must appreciate and have understanding, be sensitive to the suffering, the scandelous conditions under which they are employed.
01.08.07 .What you must bear in mind when you
examine the question of labour unrest, is that
there are still firms & enterprises, government institutions, private firms which are still discriminating in so far as wages are concerned...
01.09.30 ...if the perception persists that the
security & labour situation leave much to be desired we are not going to get investors...
01.10.07 ...all sections of the population, the rainbow nation, are up on their feet, black & white trying to put together pieces of our society
& ensure that SA is put in the position where they can successfully address the problems of their
country, not the outside world...
01.10.55 ..the world has opened its doors to us
...because of the collective achievements of all
our people...
