When there's residents out there who are homeless and got nowhere to go." I want to know how they can actually support us, we don't want to move to another area we want to stay in our area, within Latimer. We don't want to get moved to outside London, to Edinburgh or Preston, like some other people have. They have moved a couple of people outside London before this - but we don't want that, because we have grown up in that area." We need a place and we need a permanent place, not just one day in and one day out, we can't have that happening. People are sleeping outside on the streets, with no sleep. We're sleeping right next to where the police are - no sleep at all." - Story Text: Around 200 protesters demanding justice for victims of the Grenfell Tower disaster marched from west London to parliament on Wednesday (June 21), a week after the blaze.
At least 79 people are dead, or missing presumed dead as a result of the fire, which swept through the 24-storey tower on June 14. Many people are still unaccounted for and authorities have suggested that the death toll may well rise.
Eighteen year-old Mohamed At-Tu, who lived on Grenfell Walk, next to the tower, has been left homeless. He said he had lost family members in the blaze, and knew others who are in critical condition in hospital.
Facing increasing criticism for not meeting with locals sooner, British Prime Minister Theresa May has promised those left homeless by the fire would be rehoused locally within weeks, and the £5 million fund would pay for emergency supplies, food, clothes and other costs. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
