- Story Text:China said on Wednesday (June 21) it has made "unremitting efforts" to resolve tensions on the Korean peninsula, after U.S. President Donald Trump said Beijing had tried but failed to persuade Pyongyang to rein in its nuclear weapons programme.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Geng Shuang, speaking at a daily news briefing in Beijing, added that "anyone with eyes can see China's contributions", but that the issue requires "collective wisdom and collective efforts".
Trump has hardened his rhetoric against Pyongyang following the death of Otto Warmbier, a University of Virginia student who died on Monday (June 19) in the United States after returning from captivity in North Korea in a coma.
He has held high hopes for greater cooperation from China to exert influence over North Korea, leaning heavily on Chinese President Xi Jinping for his assistance. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
