- Story Text:Turkish Airlines Chairman Ilker Ayci on Tuesday (July 4) said that the ban on electronic devices on flights to the United States would be lifted on July 5 with the airline's first flight to New York on that day.
On Sunday (July 2), the United States lifted a ban on laptops in cabins on flights from Abu Dhabi to the United States, saying Etihad Airways had put in place required tighter security measures.
Turkish Airlines CEO Bilal Eksi tweeted on Monday (July 3) that he expected the ban to be lifted on Wednesday (July 5), although he gave no further details.
In March, the United States banned laptops in cabins on flights to the United States originating at 10 airports in eight countries -- Egypt, Morocco, Jordan, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar and Turkey -- to address fears that bombs could be concealed in electronic devices taken aboard aircraft. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
