And number two, between one of them, that has suffered very evident fallouts and that we've detected. And what's happening in the Sierra (mountains) has a lot to do with what's going on with (the) Sinaloa (cartel) and the Juarez cartel, so, once more, it reiterates and confirms that it's clashes between gangs." MEDIUM SHOT OF NEWS CONFERENCE (SOUNDBITE) (Spanish) RAMON GALINDO, REPRESENTATIVE OF CHIHUAHUA GOVERNMENT IN CIUDAD JUAREZ SAYING: "All of the federal agencies, including the military, are taking part in this redefinition of the strategies and this assistance is much more intense and more coordinated in terms of what's happening in the Sierra, and the repercussions that this has in Juarez. What's happening in Juarez also has to do with what's going in the Sierra in a way that the strategy is now encompassing to take care of it in an integral way."

- Story Text: At least 26 people were dead or hospitalized after a shootout in the northern Mexican border state of Chihuahua on Wednesday (July 5), the state attorney general's office said, as drug violence surges in one of Mexico's bloodiest years on record.
The shootout took place near the mountainous community of Las Varas, in the heart of one of Mexico's drug trafficking regions, and it involved two armed groups. It was unclear how many of the victims were dead and how many were alive at hospitals, officials told Reuters.
President Enrique Pena Nieto came to office in 2012 vowing to end years of drug violence, and although the murder rate fell initially, it has been rising steadily and is on track to hit its highest level since recent government records began in 1997.
The shootout coincided with U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security John Kelly visiting Mexico to meet with Pena Nieto and to discuss cooperation in fighting organised crime. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
