It is a very small area that we need to use. That is the one announcement that we wanted to make. And the second was to say: no high fences in the city that would have blocked off the city. Rather we are using Hamburg fencing, which you see behind us. We are using these fences to secure the security zone. Then there will of course be the police presence." ZILL TALKING TO MEDIA MEDIA (SOUNDBITE) (German) HAMBURG POLICE SPOKESMAN, TIMO ZILL, SAYING: "Of course the police presence has been organised into different elements. There will be the area around the trade centre, there will also be an area around this where there will be an increased police presence and of course they will then be able to react to any situation accordingly." - Story Text: With just two days to go before the G20 summit kicks off in Hamburg on July 7 the city and its police force is preparing for an influx of anti-G20 protesters and the arrival of 20 heads of state.
"It is a relatively small area so that we are able to offer suitable protection for the 20 state guests...there will be an increased police presence and of course they will then be able to react to any situation accordingly," Hamburg police spokesman Timo Zill told reporters.
Tension is likely both at the summit and outside it. Thousands of protesters are expected to demonstrate for a raft of causes, ranging from anti-globalisation to failure to tackle climate change. Already, German police have used water cannon to disperse around 500 anti-capitalist protesters. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
