We just want to give a kind of a journey, and a nostalgia for people, whichever song they heard and whatever happened in their lives. - Story Text: He's been composing music for a quarter of a century, but Oscar and Grammy Award-winning Indian musician A R Rahman says he still has a lot to do and give back.
Rahman, who is in London with a show called 'Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow', told Reuters in an interview on Thursday that he wanted to take his fans on a musical journey of his last 25 years.
Nicknamed 'the Mozart of Madras', the 50-year-old artist has over 160 film soundtracks to his name, including the Oscar-winning 'Slumdog Millionaire' and Bollywood films like 'Lagaan' and 'Taal'. He sings, writes songs, plays instruments and composes music and has teamed up with other global artists like Mick Jagger, Sarah Brightman and the Pussycat Dolls.
Rahman, who is a follower of Sufi Islam, said his religious beliefs had helped to define and shape his career. He said his interpretation of the Muslim faith meant living a life that was simple and in which humility was key.
The musician is expected to perform at the SSE Arena in Wembley on July 8. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
