- Story Text: Former Ecuadorean President Rafael Correa departed Ecuador for Belgium on Monday (July 10), leaving with harsh words for his successor and former Vice President Lenin Moreno.
A large crowd gathered to see off Correa and his wife.
During a pre-departure speech, he criticized Moreno for talks he has had with political opponents and businessmen since he took office in May. Correa even threatened to leave his - and Moreno's - party, Alianza Pais.
Moreno has responded to Correa's criticism previously, underscoring disputes within Alianza Pais. Moreno served as Correa's Vice President from 2007 to 2013.
Belgium is the country of origin of Correa's wife. The couple will live there indefinitely. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
