- Story Text:The Russian Black Sea fleet's newest frigate "Admiral Essen" left Sevastopol on Sunday (July 9) headed toward the Mediterranean to support Russia's operation in Syria, Russian media reported.
The ship is equipped with Kalibr cruise missiles and Shtil-1 medium-range surface-to-air missile systems.
The Admiral Essen joined the Russian navy in June 2016.
According to the Russian Defence Ministry the frigate, along with another warship "Admiral Grigorovich" and "Krasnodar" submarine, launched missile strikes on Islamic State targets in Syria's Hama province at the end of June. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
