- Story Text:China's Foreign Ministry said on Monday (July 10) that the United States has apologised after the United States referred to Chinese President Xi Jinping as the president of Taiwan.
The White House's Press Office released a statement on Saturday (July 8) on a meeting at the G20 in Germany between Xi and U.S. President Donald Trump, and mistakenly referred to Xi as the President of the Republic of China, the official name for self-ruled Taiwan. China's official title is People's Republic of China.
China regards Taiwan, led by President Tsai Ing-wen, as a wayward province and has never renounced the use of force to bring it under its control. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
