- Summary: NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK, UNITED STATES (JULY 10, 2017) (REUTERS) ****WARNING: CONTAINS FLASH PHOTOGRAPHY*** (SOUNDBITE) (English) ACTOR, ANDY SERKIS, SAYING: (ON BEING A GOOD ACTOR) "These is nothing special about what I do, I'm an actor playing a character and they happen to be, you know, I choose characters which mean something personal to me. And Caesar is a great character, I love the fact that he's an ape who is almost a human in ape skin who then has to find his ape-ness. And then goes on a journey, evolves to be more human like. It's very complex, it's a complex journey. But it's been, I love the challenge of having roles which are, which say so much about human condition but are so removed from the human condition." ACTOR STEVE ZAHN POSING FOR PICTURES STEVE ZAHN SPEAKING TO REPORTER (SOUNDBITE) (English) ACTOR, STEVE ZAHN, SAYING: (ON HIS CHARACTER PROVIDE HUMAN IN THE FILM) "I mean he's really a tragic character. The reason he and Caesar, my character, Bad Ape and Caesar connect is because of our - we have a similar loss, you know, we lost our kids. A tragic thing that bonds them. But just the fact that he's a different speed and, you know, not into at all where they're going makes it somewhat humorous." ACTRESS AMIAH MILLER POSING FOR PICTURES AMIAH MILLER SPEAKING TO REPORTER (SOUNDBITE) (English) ACTRESS, AMIAH MILLER, SAYING: (ON HER CHARACTER) "Novo represents humanity and goodness. And she reminds Caesar of his humanity but she's just kind of the light in this movie and she's the breath of fresh air. And she just kind of - she brings everyone back and kind of makes them take like a deep breath. So, I mean I'm glad that I play a character like that." ACTOR TERRY NOTARY POSING FOR PICTURES TERRY NOTARY SPEAKING TO REPORTER (SOUNDBITE) (English) ACTOR, TERRY NOTARY, SAYING: "It's very pertinent today, for today, it's very - I feel like it's happening to us as a human race. You know, revenge and war, and all of this, you know, really, pertinent subjects that are happening right now. It's a good reflection on where we are as human beings." DIRECTOR MATT REEVES SPEAKING TO REPORTER (SOUNDBITE) (English) DIRECTOR, MATT REEVES, SAYING: (ON THE END OF TRILOGY BEING BITTER SWEET) "It is, you know, it's been - first of all it's been three years just on this movie alone. And five years in this world where I've done really nothing but work these movies with these apes. So, it's very bitter sweet because now this chapter is over. But I look forward to more and we'll see. But this has been a great journey." KARIN KONOVAL SPEAKING TO REPORTER SERKIS POSING FOR PICTURES WITH WEAT VFX SUPERVISOR DAN LEMMON AND WETA SR. VFX SUPERVISOR JOE LETTERI (SOUNDBITE) (English) SR. VFX SUPERVISOR, WETA, JOE LETTERI, SAYING: "The technology is really just there as the underpinning. You're after the feeling, the emotion, that has to ride on top of - you want to forget about technology and just enjoy the performances." - Story Text:The cast of "War for the Planet of the Apes" celebrated the final film in the rebooted film series on the red carpet in New York on Monday (July 10).
The movie will hit U.S. cinemas on July 14th promising an action-packed conclusion to a trilogy that has garnered both critical acclaim and box office receipts.
"War for the Planet of the Apes" sees motion-capture performance specialist Andy Serkis return in his role as Caesar, leader of a super-intelligent band of apes who take on an army led by Woody Harrelson's ruthless colonel in a post-apocalyptic setting.
The original "Planet of the Apes" spawned a five-film series that ran from 1968 to 1973. The first film, an arresting science fiction classic that starred Charlton Heston, won an Oscar for its prosthetic make-up effects and was a critical and commercial hit, but the subsequent movies struggled to replicate the original's success. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
