- Story Text: The cast and co-director of 'Captain America: Civil War' reacted on Friday (April 22) to the sudden death of music icon Prince.
Actors Chris Evans, Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan and Civil War co-director Joe Russo were in Singapore on Friday to present the latest Captain America movie.
The innovative pop superstar whose songwriting and eccentric stage presence electrified fans around the world with hits including "Purple Rain" and "When Doves Cry," died on Thursday (April 21) in Minnesota.
"It's tough, it's heartbreaking, he really was a special guy, someone else told me recently that you know between him and David Bowie they really were men at a time and they really were able to kind of redefine what it is to be a man, you know what it is to be an artist and it's really a tragedy that the music world, the world just lost a couple of great legends this year," Chris Evans said.
"It's sad man, it's, you know, we were talking about it, to lose David Bowie and Prince in the same year is heartbreaking," said Anthony Mackie.
His influential, genre-defying music blended jazz, funk, R&B, disco and rock, winning seven Grammy Awards and an Oscar.
"Yes, I mean it's strange sometimes when you have such legends kind of be knockdown because it just reminds you how dispensible everything is and life is short and you know it's very weird especially if you don't know them personally but still you always had a personal connection with them," said Sebastian Stan.
"It's very tragic, it's heartbreaking, I mean I woke up to the news this morning I mean prince was such an influence in my life musically, it was, my eyes teared up when I read about it," said Joe Russo.
Prince was found unresponsive in an elevator at his Paisley Park Studios compound, which included his home, in the Minneapolis suburb of Chanhassen, according to the Carver County Sheriff's Office. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
