- Story Text: Actor Robert Downey, Jr. heaped praise on rising British star Tom Holland at the European premiere of "Captain America: Civil War" on Tuesday (April 26).
The Iron Man star said he was impressed by the 19-year-old British actor who takes on the role of Spider-Man in the film.
"This Tom Holland guy is something else... thank you for lending us your national treasure," he said, adding that his visit to see sick children at London's Great Ormond Street Hospital on Monday (April 25) was the 'highlight of the trip'.
The new movie sees Marvel's usually friendly super heroes split between maintaining control of their powers or going under government contract, leading to an explosive battle.
In "Civil War," Chris Evans' Captain America fights for superheroes to govern themselves and goes head to head with his former ally, Robert Downey, Jr.'s Iron Man, who wants the heroes to be governed by the United Nations.
Featuring a wide range of characters, including Jeremy Renner's Hawkeye and Anthony Mackie's Falcon, the movie has been largely well received by the critics so far.
"I just think it's a really good piece of entertainment and what I really love is if you look at that poster, I mean it's like ten or twelve characters deep, I mean I don't know how they're keeping all these balls in the air," said Downey, Jr.
Speaking about his excitement at attending the London premiere, held at a large shopping mall called Westfield, Tom Holland said: "It's amazing to be here tonight. I mean I used to buy jeans from this place, this is where I used to come shopping and now I am here at a premiere."
Spider-Man is joining Disney's Marvel cinematic universe as part of a collaborative deal between Walt Disney Co. and Sony Pictures, which owns the rights to Spider-Man. Holland will be swinging his way into 2017's standalone film "Spider-Man: Homecoming."
