- Story Text: Ritta al-Jalees has little interest in exactly who is to blame for the rapid deterioration in health care in Gaza. All she wants is to ensure her three sons get the help they need to breathe.
A political struggle between the Hamas Islamist movement that runs the Gaza Strip and rival Western-backed Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas is at the root of the crisis.
In what is widely seen as a bid to pressure Hamas to relinquish control of the enclave it seized from forces loyal to Abbas a decade ago, he has reduced payments his West Bank-based Palestinian Authority (PA) makes to Israel for electrical power supplied to Gaza.
That has caused long hours of blackout for Gaza's two million people and left its hospitals and other medical facilities relying chiefly on generators and expensive fuel. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
