- Story Text: China's Foreign Minister Wang Yi met his Tunisian counterpart Khemaies Jhinaoui in Beijing on Wednesday (July 19) and called for the international community to step up efforts to prevent Libya from "becoming the next Syria".
Wang said Libya was at risk of becoming a new hub for international terrorism, as forces in Iraq and Syria lose ground and flee across borders in the direction of Libya.
At the joint news conference, Jhinaoui added that both China and Tunisia had agreed to work together to maintain the independence and territorial integrity of Libya.
Libya slid into conflict after the uprising that toppled long-time Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi six years ago. In Syria, an estimated half a million people have been killed and half the population uprooted in the world's biggest refugee crisis. The war has set new standards of savagery in its impact on civilians. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
