Story Text: A forest fire raged some 10 kilometers (6.2 miles) from the ancient Incan ruins of Machu Picchu on Thursday (July 20).
Authorities believe the fire began in a nearby gorge and spread due to strong winds and dry grasslands.
At least 100 firefighters have been deployed to fight the blaze but authorities say is has not yet been controlled.
The head of the Machu Picchu park, Fernando Astete, said that no archaeological elements are in danger from the fire.
