Their home was open, the door was unlocked, because they were waiting for people from the community to come and celebrate with them the birth of this new grandchild." - Story Text: Residents of a West Bank Jewish settlement voiced anger but vowed to remain in their homes on Saturday (July 22), after a Palestinian stabbed to death three members of the same family and wounded another on Friday night (July 21).
As the Jewish Shabbat ended at sunset, journalists and visitors entered the fenced religious settlement. Volunteers of ZAKA organisation, who handles bodies according to Jewish laws, arrived at the site of the attack and began cleaning the house.
Earlier on Saturday, Israel sent extra troops into the occupied West Bank and forces raided the home of the Palestinian attacker.
Hours before the three Israelis were stabbed to death while eating Friday dinner, three Palestinians were killed in violence prompted by Israel's installation of metal detectors at entry points to the Noble Sanctuary-Temple Mount compound in Jerusalem's walled Old City. Another Palestinian was killed in clashes on Saturday, in the deadliest outbreak of violence between the two sides for years.
As international concerns mount over the bloodshed, Israel's security cabinet was due to convene on Sunday (July 23) and is expected to discuss alternative security measures that could be used to replace the metal detectors, according to two Israeli officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
