- Story Text: As the U.S. Senate voted on whether or not to open debate on a bill to end Obamacare, dozens of activists, many on wheelchairs, protested against the bill inside the Senate Hart office building Tuesday (July 25).
Chanting, "Don't cut Medicaid," referring to the public healthcare program for low-income Americans, the activists drew the attention of senate staffers and visitors.
Capitol police officers pushed wheelchairs as they escorted the protesters out to clear the atrium.
The Senate deadlocked 50-50 on moving forward with the healthcare debate, forcing Vice President Mike Pence to cast the tie-breaking vote to open debate, the first step to repeal the 2010 Affordable Care Act, commonly known as Obamacare. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
