- Title: Paris 2024 candidacy team welcomes "very close" Olympics win
- Date: 1st August 2017
- Summary: IOC MEMBER AND FORMER OLYMPIC CHAMPION OF 110 METRE HURDLES, GUY DRUT, INSIDE PARIS 2024 HEADQUARTERS (SOUNDBITE) (French) PARIS 2024 CEO, ETIENNE THOBOIS, SAYING: "In any case, we are getting closer, we are getting very close. It is clear that since July 11 and the IOC's decision to go with a double attribution if the IOC and the cities agreed obviously opened the door to a double attribution. The fact that Los Angeles has taken up 2028 makes things ever more likely." MEMBER OF PARIS 2024 CANDIDACY TEAM WORKING ON COMPUTER (SOUNDBITE) (French) PARIS 2024 CEO, ETIENNE THOBOIS, SAYING: "We are very happy obviously. Our mandate was to win the Olympics, to bring the Olympics back to Paris a century later, in 2024. It seems like Los Angeles is delighted to host the Olympics in 2028. For the IOC it is also win-win-win so all the protagonists are happy today so I don't see why the situation won't be resolved on September 23 in Lima." It is calm, it is a great relief, a satisfaction and it is essentially thanks to the young people who supported us, roughly 60 participants, whose average age is 35 to 40 years old -- you can see I was quite old in all this -- and we essentially owe this to them. Because they did an exceptional job of quality and rigour." INTERIOR OF PARIS 2024 CANDIDACY TEAM HEADQUARTERS PARIS 2024 LOGO

- Story Text: The Paris 2024 candidacy team welcomed calmly the news that victory in the race for the 2024 Olympics was all but guaranteed on Tuesday (August 1).
Paris 2024 CEO Etienne Thobois told Reuters TV the team was staying focused until the ICO's final decision in September in Lima, even if a feeling of satisfaction was growing.
Paris was seen as the front-runner for the 2024 Games because it had been passed over in a series of earlier Olympic bids and because the French capital will have marked 100 years since the last time it hosted the Games.
The French capital was competing with Los Angeles for the 2024 Summer Games after several other contenders withdrew, and the stage was set for Paris to win its bid when the International Olympic Committee (IOC) confirmed that Los Angeles had officially embraced the later date of 2028. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
