- Story Text:Five opposition leaders, including four alternative judges to the Venezuelan Supreme Court, are being sheltered in the house of the Chilean ambassador, the Chilean embassy said in a statement.
Judges Zuleima del Valle Gonzalez, Beatriz Ruiz, Jose Fernando Nunez and Elenis Del Valle requested political protection from the Chilean embassy, that says they are being sheltered as guests of the Chilean ambassador.
The four join opposition leader Roberto Enriquez, president of the social-Christian Copei party, who has been sheltered by the Chilean embassy since April. Enriquez has been accused of being involved in "coup plan" against the government of President Nicolas Maduro.
The magistrates were among 13 judges and 20 substitute judges appointed by the National Assembly on July 21 as a parallel body against the government-named judges on the Supreme Court.
Several magistrates, including Jesus Rojas, Zuleima Gonzalez and Angel Zerpa, were detained after being named to the alternate court. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
