- Story Text: French side Paris Saint-Germain confirmed the signing of Brazilian forward Neymar Jr for a record-breaking transfer fee on Thursday (August 3).
The striker's move was completed after Barcelona said that the player's representatives had paid the 222 million euros ($263 million) release clause in his contract.
Neymar's signing is the latest in a long line of high-profile transfers the Parisien club has made since the side's takeover by Qatar Sports Investment (QSi) in 2011.
Headed by Qatari businessman Nasser Ghanim Al-Khelaifi PSG quickly went on to sign major global talents including Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Thiago Silva and Javier Pastore.
They were soon followed by the likes of Edinson Cavani, David Beckham, Ezequiel Lavezzi and Lucas Moura.
The French club won the Ligue 1 title four years in a row until Monaco finally overhauled PSG in the 2016-17 season.
Despite PSG's significant outlay Unai Emery's team have not yet made a convincing push for the Champions League. Last season they were 4-0 up against Barcelona after the first-leg of their second round tie before a 6-1 turnaround inspired by Neymar Jr at the Nou Camp saw PSG dumped out of the competition in one of the most shocking results in Champions League history.
Now, however, Neymer Jr joins his fellow Brazilians Thiago Silva, Lucas Moura, Marquinhos and recent signing and former Barcelona man Dani Alves in the French capital. - Copyright Holder: FILE REUTERS (CAN SELL)
