- Story Text: Kenyan police stationed extra forces at the airport in Kisumu, an opposition stronghold, on Friday (August 11) in a bid to forestall any protests.
The protests in the western city come ahead of an expected announcement that President Uhuru Kenyatta has won re-election despite allegations of vote rigging by opposition leader Raila Odinga.
Supporters of Odinga, who claim this week's elections were rigged, burned a tyres and used stones to block the street in the city before being chased down by police.
Anyang Nyong'o, the newly elected Kisumu governor from opposition National Super Alliance (NASA), appealed for calm and urged Odinga supporters to accept the result no matter what. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
