- Story Text: Thirteen wildlife animals that had been trucked into Turkey in a rescue from their damaged zoo in war-torn Syrian city of Aleppo, found refuge in the Jordanian city of Jerash on Friday (August 11).
Five lions, two tigers, two bears, two dogs and two hyenas which once lived in Aleppo's Aalim al-Sahar (Magic World) zoo, suffered from poor nutrition and physical problems, according to Amir Khalil, Four Paws official, who led the charity's efforts.
The animals which survived more than six years of intense clashes at the abandoned Aalim al-Sahar zoo found sanctuary in Jerash's al Ma'wa Shelter for Nature and Wildlife, 48 km. (30 miles) north of the kingdom's capital, Amman.
The project was a joint effort between the Turkish environment ministry and international animal charity Four Paws. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
