Tens of thousands of people attended a rally and procession in support of former Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Saturday (August 12) as he concluded a show of political power following a Supreme Court decision to disqualify him from office over undeclared assets.
Sharif launched the so-called "caravan" procession from Islamabad to his eastern hometown of Lahore on Wednesday (August 9), despite the concerns of advisers about security.
Along the way, Sharif addressed huge crowds gathered along the Grand Trunk Road bridging the 380 km (237 miles) between Islamabad and Lahore.
After being driven for more than 82 hours surrounded by supporters showering his vehicle with rose petals from capital Islamabad to his home town Lahore -- normally an around 5 hours' drive -- Sharif addressed the crowd shortly before midnight outside Lahore's famous shrine of Data Darbar. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
