- Story Text: Kenya's president-elect Uhuru Kenyatta watched election results live on television on Friday (August 11) minutes before going on stage to re-confirm his second term in office.
Supporters took to the street to celebrate whilst his opponents protested in parts of the capital and west of the country.
Kenyatta offered an olive branch to the opposition and urged national unity and peace with rivals who have rejected the result and raised the prospect of street protests.
People in downtown Nairobi, who have almost stopped work for a week fearing violence and instability, said they wanted to move on now the elections are over.
Election Commission figures show Kenyatta winning 54.3 percent of the vote and Odinga 44.7 percent. Nearly 80 percent of the 19 million registered voters cast their ballots. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
