- Story Text: Afghanistan's Ambassador to India, Shaida Abdali, has praised President Donald Trump's decision to commit U.S. troops to an open-ended war in Afghanistan, on Tuesday (August 22).
Trump offered few specifics in a speech on Monday (August 21) but promised a stepped-up military campaign against the Taliban who have gained ground against U.S.-backed Afghan government forces.
Trump also reached out to India and sought New Delhi's help to develop Afghanistan which the Afghan envoy considered a positive step.
Relations between Afghanistan and India received a major boost in 2011 with the signing of a strategic partnership agreement, Afghanistan's first since the Soviet invasion of 1979. - Copyright Holder: FILE REUTERS (CAN SELL)
