- Story Text: A 34 year-old man was put under formal investigation on Sunday (September 3) after DNA belonging to a missing 9 year-old girl was found in his car.
Maelys went missing in the night of Saturday to Sunday (August 26-27) while at a wedding party and was last seen at 3am. The man being detained had already been questioned by police with another man but the two were released.
Investigators found DNA traces belonging to the girl on the dashboard of the car used by the suspect, French Media reports, citing the suspect's lawyer Bernard Meraud.
Reports added that the man conceded that the girl had been in his car during the wedding party with another boy to see whether dogs belonging to the suspect were in the boot.
French radio France Info reports judges in charge of the case were not convinced by the suspect's explanations and denial.
The suspect, who was a guest at the wedding, was put under formal investigation for "arbitrary detention, kidnapping and illegal confinement of an under 15" according to France Info.
French authorities have spent the week searching the wedding venue's nearby woods and waters to no avail. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
